One was a failure by all commercial measures, but a lot of fun. The other (also fun!) is a (relative) success I've milked the shit out of. Dare I milk it some more...?
50k copies? Woman, stand up and let everyone know, that is amazing! There is a new magazine launching in the Berkshires called "B Magazine". You should pitch them to do some coverage on the book (anniversary edition or just call it an anniversary edition!) Write mpetricca (at) berkshireeagle (dot) com and say I sent you. Their whole raison d'être is celebrating and profiling people who have left the city/cities for the country and even though your area isn't technically in the Berkshires, I think it will work.
Oooh, thank you for the referral! I'll do that. And thank you for cheering me on, Courtney! It means a lot to me. <3 PS Looooove your posts on etiquette, including today's on blurbs. Your newsletter is amazing and so necessary.
I love DIY culture, especially zines and art spaces and independent music, and all you shared here. That said, the idea that sustaining yourself and being able to eat makes you less of an artist or a sell out is what I hate about the culture (DIY and otherwise!!) Maybe this new Substack idea is the marriage of your great ideas and business acumen. I’m sure the writers who have their words featured would like being read and paid. Do whatever you wanna do & according to your ethos. ♥️
Thank you, Emilly. I love the idea that a GTAT Substack could be the marriage of a good idea and business acumen. I needed to hear that perspective. I really appreciate the support. <3
