Adding at the repost: this piece is just beautifully organized. With each of the first three you think, what can top this one? And then the #1 spot is so perfectly filled with understatement after all that. Kudos to your writing-self, Sari *Botton*, and admiration too for this stoic guest-self.

When I transplanted myself with two

Little kids from India to Santa Cruz, California,in 1989, I hardly knew anything about Thanksgiving Holiday. I came from a culture full of festivities- a popular saying 13 festivals in 12 months. I felt festival starved and yearned to celebrate Thanksgiving. In the last 35 years, my thanksgiving exp has infused a new kind of identity in me . I am part American, part Indian, part Odia and am still searching what I have lost and what I have gained. Thank you Sari for your beautiful writing.

I hope it was a good and not remarkable one this year, Sari!!! ❤️ Mine are unrankable: I’d have to start with the least bad ones first! Best one ever was home with my dog, an old movie, and a roast chicken while my (now late) husband went to thanksgiving with his offspring and ex-wife! Sweet solitude!

Had a lovely (fortunately unremarkable) time tonight. Hope you had a good night, whatever you did! <3
