I’m so sorry it’s hard right now. Thank you for sharing stories about your friend. She seems amazing! Here’s a thing that made me laugh. I will never look at giraffes 🦒 the same way! Plus if you need a funny book, try The Big Swiss.
Ohhh I needed this. Thank you Sari and losing a friend like Juli has to be gutting. I lost a “frenemy” recently - she was 59 - to cancer and it just sent me in a tailspin. Complicated relationship.
I have also been staring at the face of death - my mother passed away due to heart failure last month and the cat she was caring for was hit by traffic on the same night. I still feel surreal and I am still coping, maybe not in the right way by diving into "All There Is with Anderson Cooper Podcast" Season 2 because I am often in tears while listening to it on my treadmill and that all of a sudden I find the screaming vocal in Deafheaven's music strangely satisfying and soothing ...
Your post was a healthy dose of humor (and laughter) I needed. Thank you!
Sending lots of hugs your way, and below, one of the greatest most serious joke songs I've ever encountered. A friend and I discovered Flynt Flossy and Turquoise Jeep in our college years and nearly died of cackling over the insanity of these songs. Even better (or worse, who knows) they're all bops.
Really lovely, hilarious videos of Julie. It's so hard. I love this list, but more than anything, the sentiment at the end, carrying the best parts of her forward in not waiting for permission, in letting loose. What a way to honor her.
I'm so sorry for your losses, Sari. Yeah—in the face of that you've gotta laugh, listen to music, move the body, cry, repeat. That's about all I know. (And glioblastoma just sucks. My husband's been living with it for a while.)
I’m thinking of you, Sari, and hope life gets easier and less painful. I’m loving English Teacher on Hulu. It’s a funny gay-themed sitcom and I like that the students have lots of funny lines too.
First off, yes to laughter as a cure for what life forces us to deal with. The fifth anniversary of my mom's death crept up on me yesterday and I was never more glad to just chill and watch a Eddie Izzard comedy video. We also recently re-watched 30 Rock and it is brilliant and funny. The silliest & dumbest thing ever out on YouTube is right here:
Your comment about "tears falling from my eyes almost involuntarily" resonates with times of great sorrow for me. Thanks for articulating that. I'm sorry Julie died so young, glad you were able to record and share some of who she (and you) are.
My sister died two years ago. Car wreck, after surviving breast cancer. She had just turned 52. Can I just say that the series of silly impromptu videos she and I made about a year before have brought me (and many others) enormous comfort? I'm so thankful to have them. I wish I had videos of my mom, but she died before we all carried video recorders in our pockets all day.
I am so sorry for your loss. <3 I, too, resort to humor and laughing fits in the DARKEST of situations.
Yeah some of it aged badly, but 30 Rock is still brilliant and I scream laugh every time. "Never go with a hippie to a second location" is an incredible piece of advice everyone should follow. Adele Dazeem is a classic that will never die (poor Idina!).
I also STILL laugh every single time I think about Four Seasons Total Landscaping, because that shit was hilarious, and was one of the last Great Moments on Twitter. I just watched that Carly video again and I am now dying at my desk. For reference, all of that happened while my MIL was dying of cancer. One of my favorite memories is my husband and I driving back from the funeral, which was sparsely attended because of COVID restrictions, and me being like "well, we still got more people than Giuliani did" and DYING LAUGHING.

Take good care. 😘🦒🧀

I find the complicated relationships make for more complicated grief… Sorry for your loss. <3

I'm so sorry for your loss(es), Yi. <3 My condolences to you and yours. And thank you for letting me know you get it, and enjoyed this post.

I can't wait to see what Jules inspires you to do! Love you.
Love you, too, Steph. <3 <3 <3

Make sure you wait for the payoff of Alan, Alan!
Thank you! Hilarious.
What a beautiful memorial. Who doesn’t want to be remembered as a source of joy and laughter? 💙🩵

I love that you have those, and that they bring you comfort. So sorry for your losses. <3
So sorry for your loss, Sari. Thank you for sharing your loving memories of Julie with us.
I agree, laughter is the best medicine.
Here is a comedian named Pauline Yasuda that I found recently that had me in stitches:

Oh, thank you for that. And the kind words.

Ha. Love it.
oh as far as suggestions, if you like 30 Rock, you may like Girls 5 Eva. I also am rewatching Veep and it is HILARIOUS
I love so many of the same things. Here's one that never fails to send me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6m4MAllWLk8
Oh, that's great. I love Sarah Cooper, too.
She is a riot. When she drops that baby doll I freaking lose it, every time. I'm so sorry about your friend, and stepsister.
