What an odd practice! Capitalism at its worst... Thank you for this update, Sari. I, too, am somewhat comforted by this update -- though, of course, most of all I simply wish he were still here with us.
I see a version of this all the time on Facebook these days, tagging multiple people on a fake post claiming someone they know died in a bad accident and encouraging them to click a link to see who/how. I'm so sorry this happened to your friend and his family.
OMG (jaw drop) What do people get out of such a horrendous practice? Why are we so obsessed with guns? Why are we doing nothing about genocide happening before our eyes? Why are people still bringing new life into climate collapse? Why do people kill over not much of anything? Why is there so much hatred? Why trillionaires, or white rage, or patriarchy? Why capitalism? How do endure this utter dystopia?? How do we find sanity?
It's been an awful season of death in my life and every time these abhorrent websites come up rather quickly - I saw a twitter acquaintance say that his brother was up there even before the family was informed - and the only time it seemed slightly muted was with the friend who passed away in France. These really should be stopped for the sake of decency.
Thank you for sharing this. Shocked, appaled, and seriously saddened.Who knew? Certainly not me. But evil begets evil. With all that's out there on healthy choices in food, that is to say, highly focused information on what we choose to place in this body, we call a temple, clearly people ar not taking the time to place the same amount of time on what we feed our minds. It is not necessary to read every tidbit out there. Not even the good stuff, because just like pasta may be great for some people, it's a killer ofr others. Obit pirates are the sensationalists that do not deserve the time of any decent person. Perhaps as we have those icons representing "not allowed" or proceed with caution, the obit pirates might need this warning.Time to stand up, people, and reclaim what is beautiful, true and sacred.
As a person who writes a lot on grief, I also read the local obits every week. I read them, of course, in case I knew someone personally, but also as a practice acknowledging a person having lived, acknowledging a person who left a mark and acknowledging those who did know them, now left in sorrow. I pray a prayer, and somehow it allows me to participate in their passing journey, and I hope also allows those in sorrow feel supported.
Obit pirates are something to take seriously. There is nothing more dangerous than untrue and negative thought, likwise, there is nothing more healing than a thought blossomed from love.

Thank you. What a terrible practice.

Good questions.

I’m so sorry for what you’ve been going through, Elisabeth. I couldn’t agree with you more. So disturbing.
😳

This is so heartbreaking. I was victim to the same thing. It doesn't bring him back, but it's a small comfort. Poor Gabe 💔
I’m so sorry it happened to you, too, Summer. What a despicable practice. 💔
How ghoulish and soulless. I'm sorry.
Right? Thank you.
Boggles my mind.
